Oh what a weekend.  As a child growing up in the city, 4th of July was a favorite holiday.  Heading to the levee, sporting our glow necklaces, we would roll down the hill over and over again until nearly dark.  Once the sun started going down it was a not so patient wait until dark.  Shortly, you see the first streamer shooting into the air with a whistle and the show has begun.  While living in the country has tremendous benefits and I love being here, at certain times I long for home.  Firework shows are a rare treat for my children having only seen a few real spectacles.  This year will be different.  After a day with family and a lot of good food, we will head to the levee to see the sights.  I hope you all also enjoy your holiday.

“The Summer of Excitement”

Family vacations or weekend getaways can leave you feeling drained, exhausted, and overloaded with pictures begging to be added to your digital scrapbook.  I know the feeling.  To help with the memory preservation, I’ve added some items to the shop at InspiredScraps to help you get those summer layouts done.

A New Day

Out my front door

Out my front door a cold spell has come through.  It kept me from working in the yard today, but I’m confident tomorrow will be better.  I’ve got an old wheelbarrow out back I keep meaning to fill with dirt and flowers.  Next year, because I waited too late this year, I’ll replace the irises that will be in the corner behind the wheelbarrow, with a clump of glads.  Add a little container garden around part of the front of the new “raised bed” and voila! a beautiful area near my back door as well.  I’ll have to remember to take pictures of the process.  The cooler weather, though, did allow me the time to finish several things I was working on.

I’ve got 2 new minikits out at Inspired Scraps.  Sweet Chic and Today are both great for this time of year.  I really like the playfulness of Sweet Chic.  With the cutout tree and cute bird, I see myself using this for my toddler aged nieces.  I know which pictures I’m using even!  And you can’t forget about those boys who are always left out in the digiscrap world.  Today is a grungy kit in blue, brown, and kinda seafoam green. I’ve also got a couple of CU items out.  I know, I don’t normally do commercial use.  You don’t have to be a designer to use them!  Layered grey-scale templates are the ultimate way to get more from what you buy.  Match them to any kit or pull the colors directly from the photo itself.  Use the stamps directly on papers or photos.  Recolor and/or adjust blend modes to instantly add flair to what you already have or create totally new desings.  **No Credit**

Greatest gifts

Happy happy Mother’s Day to all of you.  If you are getting your first ever handprint flower card, or tiny sunflower pot from your preschooler, congratulations!  These are some of the most heartfelt gifts you will ever receive.  My children have gotten a little older, and the presents have gotten better, but the best gift my kids can give me, I get everyday.  Day after day I watch my children grow.  I can be proud of the people they are becoming.  At first glance, they look like any other kids, but you have to watch.  My son is still only 10 and hasn’t yet been corrupted by puberty and jr. high.  Caring and fun, honest and thoughtful, he’s still coming into himself but he’s coming along well.  My daughter though, we are at the scary age.  When you no longer know everything about their lives.  At 12, she shows a healthy sense of self, a positive attitude, devotion and loyalty to friends, willingness to share confusion and concerns with her parents, the ability to make her own decisions, and strong enough to say no.  With that being said, on this Mother’s Day, I want to thank my children for everyday making me feel like I am the best mother in world.
